United Healthcare Contract Negotiation
Though we do all we can to avoid a notice of termination, care can occasionally be affected by normal business activities like insurance contract negotiations. Such an issue has recently arisen for those of our patients covered by a United Healthcare insurance plan. We are working diligently to resolve this dispute with UHC and hope to avoid any interruption of care for our patients. Please read below for answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Q: What is happening and why?
The contract between United Healthcare is up for renewal and we have not been able to reach mutually beneficial terms for a new agreement. This is a standard process that occurs with all health insurance companies, and we hope will be resolved as soon as possible.
Q: When does the contract end?
The current contract is set to terminate on March 31, 2026; however, we hope an agreement is reached prior to this date.
Q: Will Texas Tech Physicians still provide care to UHC members if they go out-of-network?
Yes, Texas Tech Physicians will continue to provide care to all patients, including UHC members, even if we are considered out-of-network.
Q: What happens on April 1, for UHC patients?
You will continue receiving the same high-quality care on April 1, whether in or out-of-network.
If we are out-of-network with UHC, your out-of-pocket costs may vary. To understand your specific benefits, we encourage you to call UHC customer service at the phone number on the back of your insurance card. In addition, we encourage you to call UHC today to let them know you want to keep Texas Tech Physicians in your network and let your employer and/or your insurance agent know that the providers with Texas Tech Physicians are your preferred choice for health care.
Q: If I am out of network, can you bill Medicare?
No, Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative to traditional Medicare. When you elect a Medicare Advantage Plan such as United Healthcare, traditional Medicare will no longer pay for your medical services.
Q: What other Medicare Advantage Plans does TTP participate in?
Currently TTP has contractual relationships with the following Medicare Advantage Plans:
- Aetna
- Baylor Scott & White
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas
- Humana
- Wellcare by Allwell
- Wellpoint
We encourage you to reach out to your local insurance agent to find the right option for you, they will be able to assist you with providers that participate in each plan.
Q: What will happen if the contract ends?
If an agreement is not reached, Texas Tech providers will be considered out-of-network. The affected UHC plan members may pay more to continue seeking care from Texas Tech providers.

Texas Tech Physicians is actively negotiating in good faith with UHC to reach a mutually beneficial contract with UHC prior to any patient disruption.
